The official Exoteric Discussions FAQ

28 September 2005 updates

Q - What is this place?

A - Exoteric Discussions is the official proving grounds for the Three World Wars (3WW) forums. The 3WW staff has many goals for the site. These goals include Exoteric goals, clearly stated for all to see; and Esoteric goals, revealed only to a select few. In simple language, 3WW is a "secret society." The secret for the most part is not very well kept and this is by design.

Q - I registered an account but I can only post in Exoteric Discussions. Can a moderator please let me into the other more interesting and better behaved forums?

A - New members are assigned permissions to only a few forums. This system has been set up to ensure that boorish behavior can be strongly controlled in the primary areas of discussion. Membership to Inner Circle must be earned by demonstrating a commitment to producing quality posts and to dignified behavior. To this end, the Exoteric Discussions area is left almost entirely self-moderated. Moderators will not likely come to your rescue if you find yourself neck deep in a flame war when it is clearly obvious to us that you did not respond with equal or escalating venom by accident.

To many this seems unfair and cruel. To the 3WW team, it was decided after much (MUCH!) discussion that it was both necessary and beneficial to the members and our esoteric goals. Acting boorishly and being easily annoyed by boorish behavior are both willful acts on the part of posters. The 3WW team is deeply commited to providing an outlet for unique, thought provoking, and life changing discussions about matters that are for the most part completely denied to the masses by the unseen masters of government, marketing, and media that control their minds. It is critical therefore, that we never knowingly engage in acts that infringe upon your personal agency.

Q - What are the minimum requirements for achieving Inner Circle membership?

A - Nominally these are at least 10 quality posts, the ability to refrain from offering trolls and/or nibbling on troll bait, and the approval of the moderation team. As a practical matter this is usually closer to 25 posts and roughly a week's reflection period while the moderators discuss a candidate's merits. That said, Inner Circle is very easy to obtain for anyone who is both literate and respectful.

Q - I have been here a long time and not been promoted. Is there some kind of plot against me?

A - Not every secret society is evil, in fact almost none are! If you feel you meet the standards of membership (and you should know instinctively if you do) but have not been included, send a Private Message to a Moderator and ask to be considered. You were most likely overlooked as the 3WW team is very busy with a number of exciting new projects that will be presented to the appropriate levels of membership in due time.

Q - I was attacked by a member of the forum!

A - That isn't a question but it will be addressed anyway. If you mean you were physically harmed in the flesh and blood by a forum member, you should report this matter to the proper authorities immediately. To the best of our knowlege, no real life violence between forum members has ever occured. If you mean that someone called you a name and hurt your widdle feewings, the moderators think you need to grow up. One of the objectives of Exoteric Discussions is to identify persons with the personal dignity to maintain their composure and apply appropriate responses to aggression. Consider this a matter of your internet reading you back. There are rewards both mundane and spiritual for those who rise above.

In short, it is recommended that you do not 1) Offer trolls 2) Nibble on troll bait.

Q - I have an item that I think needs including in this FAQ. How do I do that?

A - Message a moderator. If your concern has not already been addressed, it will likely be added within a few days.

Q - I was previously able to post in all of the forums but now I can only post in Exoteric Discussions. Is my cookie broken?

A - A large number of forum members who previously (before 27 September 2005 that is) had Inner Circle membership have been temporarily demoted in the most signficant act of moderation on the boards to date. The official reasons why members have been demoted are:
  • The member was a troll.
  • The member was a sucker for troll bait.
  • The member engaged in counter-troll behavior.
A list of all demoted members has been posted to the moderator's area and is under review. Over roughly the next 72 hours some of the demoted members will be evaluated for re-introduction into the Inner Circle (but not the Thinking Individuals usergroup) on a probationary basis. You may message a moderator if you feel you were demoted unfairly. The standard of conduct expected of Inner Circle members should be easily discernable to all. Please rise to the challenge.

Q - I heard that there are secret boards that only some members can view. Is this true?

A - Yes.

Q - Some board members are complaining that my typ1ng iz h4rd to f0llow and that I use caps TOO MUCH. They say that they are ignoring my posts because my presentation saps my credibility. How can I communicate more clearly?

A - You must learn to use emphasis appropriately.

Emphasizing single words or phrases can be effective without annoying anyone. The trick is to use it sparingly and intelligently. For example, take the following sentence but add emphasis by raising your voice on the bold word in each one:

I didn't say he took the money.
I didn't say he took the money.
I didn't say he took the money.
I didn't say he took the money.
I didn't say he took the money.
I didn't say he took the money.
I didn't say he took the money.

You should be able to see that this seven word sentence can have seven completely different meanings based on where the emphasis is placed.

Now try it again but say all seven words out loud with equal emphasis. I didn't say he took the money. The sentence loses quite a lot of meaning when it is impossible to place the intended emphasis.

There are several ways you can add emphasis on the boards. By using a mix of them, you can draw attention to multiple key words and phrases without overloading your reader as in the example of the entire sentence being bold. Your options are lists, bold, italics, underline, color, and size. To add each kind of emphasis use the UBB tags. That is to say place the part you want to emphasize inside the appropriate tags. Examples are below.

Code:
The [list][*][*][/list] tags make a list.  Text after the [*] tags will be bulletized.

example:
[list][*]This is the first bullet item[*]This is the second bullet item[/list]
  • This is the first bullet item
  • This is the second bullet item

Code:
The [b][/b] tags make text bold.  [b]Text between the tags like this[/b] will be bolded.

Text between the tags like this will be bolded.
Code:
The [i][/i] tags make text italics.  [i]Text between the tags like this[/i] will be italicized.
Text between the tags like this will be italicized.
Code:
The [u][/u] tags make text italics.  [u]Text between the tags like this[/u] will be underlined.

Text between the tags like this will be underlined.
Code:
The [color=red][/color] tags make text red.  [color=red]]Text between the tags like this[/color] will be red.

Text between the tags like this will be red. Use this sparingly.
Code:
The [size=16][/size] tags make text font size 16.  [size=16]Text between the tags like this[/size] will be font size 16.

Text between the tags like this will be font size 16. Use this sparingly.

Q - YOU PEOPLE ARE ALL SICK i am so angry thta I cann0t even type correctly or use punctruation % complete a coherent thought You are all going to burn in hell for like forever for writing about (something I dis4ggreed with) as the disembodied souls of demons gnaw on your burning flesh John 243:16 says you are a big weenie and I have lots more imaginary Bible versus to quote were that came from Die, die, die you perverts I really liek you site except for that evil thing you put up Remove your trash from teh univese immediately or I will pray for bad things to happen to you because I am a Strong Christian I once prayed that bad things would happen my neighbor because his dog makes tinkle on my grass and he got CANCRE so you better get the fear of t3h Lord in ya I bet you didn't even use you're real name you %cowards%!!!!!!11!elevenoneoneone!!! Sincerely - Anonymous

A - From time to time, messages such as this are sent to the moderator's private message boxes or registered email addresses. The tone of communication tends to prompt us to summarily delete the message without examining the contents or to laugh out loud with a huge gut splitting guffaw. The above imaginary message is provided as of an example of how to have your concerns dismissed by the 3WW team. Note that the message is 1) rude 2) threatening 3) poorly constructed 4) reveals the poster to be a hypocrit and 5) does not actually identify the resolution the poster is seeking. Do not be this person.

Q - I really want to join the Inner Circle of membership but it is really difficult to find polite discussions to take part in when limited to Rants and Raves and Random Musings. What else can I do?

A - The Resource Reviews section has gone neglected for far too long. Turn us on to some quality reading materials by providing intelligent and in depth reviews.

Q - Why do I have to wait so long between making posts?

A - The flood control limit has been set to 3 minutes to both encourage members to take time to produce meaningful and well constructed posts and to control spammers. We have tried operating without a flood control limit and the results were not desirable.

Q - How many accounts am I allowed to have 3WW?

A - The short answer is one (1). The long answer is sock puppet accounts will be tolerated if they are used responsibly. It can be worthwhile to have a second account for posting items that are outside a user's generally accepted area of expertise. For example, a poster with a strong and well recognized reputation in a particular subject matter may want to explore an undeveloped concept without having the rest of the forum assign credibility that is undeserved based on the author. Alternatively, a poster who has had a radical transformation of life perspective, as sometimes happens when confronted by the truth at 3WW, might want to start over fresh anonymously rather than have his or her sincerity questioned.

Using sock puppets irresponsibly, especially to attack other posters anonymously while protecting a main account from moderation will result in the banning of all accounts from the offending IP address.

Q - What does the little bar under our username mean? What does is the difference between Contributors and Advanced Contributors?

A - Those are the phpbb rank indicators. They are driven entirely by post count and do not provide any special privleges upon members. Their only use to date is identifying new members who have met the minimum post count to be considered for Inner Circle Membership. The post count required for each rank is:
  • Newcomer - 0 posts
  • Contributor - 10 posts
  • Advanced Contributor - 50 posts
  • Super Contributor - 200 posts
  • Lifetime Member - 1000 posts
Spamming the boards to achieve a higher rank will be discouraged by manually reseting the members post count to a lower number.
