The Case to Impeach Bush

Posted in General at 3:29 pm by MamaSaid

I’ve discussed the dictatorship we have under Bush and the incredible loss of democracy we are experiencing as a country under his tyrannical rule.  Bush is not working for the people as it is intended – he tells them what’s going down, no matter what anyone says, and that they will like it.

Education in America - Are we Dumber than the Rest?

Posted in General at 3:07 pm by ZoeWashburne

Student            As a college English and GED instructor, I probably have a greater level of interest and understanding of the educational system in the United States than most.  Every day I personally work with high school graduates, as well as dropouts, and see firsthand the level of education kids are being sent out into the cold, cruel world with.  As an educator, it is often shocking to see how little some of these kids know about basic grammar, world geography, our political system, and the simplest math skills.  One need only give a cashier at a local fast-food restaurant $5.01 for a meal that costs $4.76 to know what I’m talking about.  As you watch the confused, glazed-over look as they try to figure out how much change to give back, it makes one wonder…are we dumber than the rest of the world?

The Bush Push to War with Iran

Posted in General at 8:59 am by MamaSaid

Let’s face facts, the Bush Administration has been a dictatorship since he was allegedly elected into office.  The ballots of absentee military personnel, mostly non-WASP, were conveniently dismissed so that Bush could assume the Presidency whether the American public wanted him or not.  I am still outraged about his irreverence toward military members and races other than his own and clearly it has gotten a lot worse.  We suffered through the 9/11 charade.  We needlessly lost men in Iraq, paralleling the situation in Vietnam decades ago.  While in Iraq killing, religious relics cherished by people for centuries were carelessly destroyed.  Now Bush and his puppet administration actually intend to continue this tirade of terror in Iran.

The Agenda: A Three Part Look at New Economic Policy Ideas

Posted in General at 6:01 pm by JTinDC

Introduction

We’ve voted for and sworn in a new congress now controlled by the Democrats. They ran on promises of change, and no doubt they’ll keep reminding everyone that Americans voted for change, especially on Iraq. But they’ll also attempt to bring major policy changes to other issues defining the economic lives of Americans.

All Hail King Bush

Posted in General at 5:15 pm by ZoeWashburne

When exactly did we become a monarchy?   Did I miss something, because it sure seems like Bush is doing whatever he damn well pleases and to hell with public opinion.  As Bush lays out his “plan” to send 21,500 more troops to Iraq amidst throngs of public disapproval, it makes one wonder just who the hell Bush thinks he is.  Sure, he’s the president, the commander in chief, the big cheese, the main man, the big kahuna, yadda yadda, but that doesn’t give him the right to rule with no consideration for the public’s will.  Let’s not forget that the main job of the office of the President is to “preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution.”  Nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything about the people having to do whatever the president wants, or else.  Go ahead, read it, it’s not in there!  So, why is it that in a time when Bush’s own congressional party members are turning on him faster than a whirling dervish in springtime are we allowing him to continue sending more young people to die for a war that is clearly being lost?

Doomsday Clock Moved Forward Two Minutes

Posted in General at 10:04 pm by Alex Miller

The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clockface maintained by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists at the University of Chicago. It uses the analogy of the human race being at a time that is “minutes to midnight” where midnight represents destruction of the earth by nuclear war.

Scooping an Execution

Posted in General at 7:49 am by ZoeWashburne

Okay, so Saddam Hussein was executed, we all know that by now, but what is interesting and largely overlooked is how the news was broke.  As people across Iraq and around the world gathered around their television sets to see if it was actually going to happen, one thing was clear, no one seemed to know what was happening.  Shrouded in secrecy, as these things always are, little bits and pieces of news trickled out…Saddam was seen at the hanging site…Saddam was hanged a few minutes before sunrise…no wait, Saddam was hanged a few minutes after sunrise…this just in, Saddam is seen crying like a baby begging for forgiveness…wait, yes he’s being hanged right now.  Ain’t live television great?
