Once again, I am going to surprise myself with the person I choose to quote. A few months ago I repeated worthwhile statements made by Rosie O’Donnell, and although she is not a personal favorite of mine, her words were meaningful. Today I will quote Rush Limbaugh because what he said makes sense. After all, if I were to allow personal feelings or preferences to get in the way of sharing valuable information, I would be no better than some of the government officials we are dissatisfied with. It certainly seems that my entry about Parkland Hospital giving free care to illegal immigrants having babies was quite controversial. I have received several comments about Parkland, both for and against the situation, so I feel the need to share some recent reader commentary and respond.

Recently my husband discussed a news program he watched when he was unable to sleep one night about the Bank of America issuing credit cards to illegal aliens without identification. I was alarmed and within a day or so, one of my friends who knows my political perspectives sent on additional information about this unbelievable situation.

Recently a reader, Dan, offered information about another situation where veterans are being treated unfairly by being promised what no one intends to actually deliver (thank you for sharing, Dan). Obviously lofty promises are made to the men and women who join the military – after all, if the government told them that they were really going to give you the shaft for getting shot at, how many people would voluntarily join?The bottom line of the sad story shared by Dan is that the University of Illinois made a promise last spring to veterans and military members who wanted to earn an MBA – they would give 110 full scholarships to the people who qualified. Each scholarship is worth about $74,000, with 70 percent paid by the state and the rest by the university. However, it seems that this was not quite what happened.

A few weeks ago I blogged about Parkland in Texas, a hospital who seems to specialize in delivering babies for parents who are not American citizens. No questions are asked and non-citizens who are not paying taxes are given complete care and treatment at no cost. The point of my article was to explore who is actually paying for this (taxpayers who are not privy to equivalent benefits, even in their most serious time of need) and raise awareness about how the money we are contributing to the system is being used. While taxpaying citizens do not have access to adequate medical care, single mothers send their children to bed hungry and veterans remain homeless, we wage overpriced wars in other countries and cater to people who illegally enter our borders.I received a comment about the blog that stated, “All I would like to say is that no one has no right to call someone else an ‘illegal immigrant’ or call a group of people ‘illegals’. If you think it is not fair how American citizens are not receive all these things the ‘illegals’ are receiving, then try writing articles on how the USA should focus on that, and not some war in the middle of nowhere.”

I had taken a little break to clear my mind and rebuild my strength from the demands of everyday living. After a brief sabbatical, I now return to everyday life and blogging with enthusiasm. My recent review of the news has inspired me to discuss several important issues over the next few days.I feel the need to start with a bit of Bush bashing because I have been away from it for so long and frankly, there is so much of it to be done. The latest news I read upon returning to the “real” world (a world filled with false media, half truths and bold-faced lies so far removed from actual peace and prosperity) was the proposition of Sen. Russ Feingold. Apparently Feingold would like Congress to censure Bush for his assault against the Constitution and his management (or mis-management) of the war in Iraq.

Because today is Independence Day, I have become more contemplative than ever about our current state of freedom in America.Of course we are aware that illegal aliens are enjoying complete freedom in America – free from paying taxes, free medical care without question and freedom to live in a country and obtain benefits from it because they illegally entered it. But how are actual tax-paying citizens in America doing this Fourth of July?

Now that my friends have become aware of my political stance as a result of reading my blogs on this website, I receive a lot of information in my email. Another tidbit I was sent inspired me to write today’s entry about Parkland Memorial Hospital.Okay, where is Parkland Memorial Hospital and what makes it worth writing about? Parkland Memorial Hospital is located right in the heart of Bush domain and the good ol’ boys network – Dallas, Texas. There are some historical reasons why Parkland has been in the press over the past few decades. First, Parkland appeared in the media when John F. Kennedy died there in 1963 and Lee Harvey Oswald died there shortly afterwards. A few years later, just by alleged coincidence, Jack Ruby died at Parkland – for those who don’t remember, Ruby killed Lee Harvey Oswald.

Back on December 7, 1787, Delaware was the first states to ratify the United States Constitution. Although small in physical land size, Delaware seems to be big on progression. I recently read about an interesting event that occurs in the first state every week.It seems that every Sunday, at the intersection of Savannah Road and Kings Highway, people show up to support both sides of the war debate about Iraq. This weekly gathering has taken place every Sunday since September, 2004. Everyone stands motionless and silent, many bearing signs, for 45 minutes at this busy intersection in an otherwise quiet shore town of around 3,000 residents. A third group has gathered on the corner since January of this year with signs calling for the impeachment of President Bush.
