When a Superpower corners the Market

Posted in General at 11:28 am by Scott MacFarlane

Whether you believe we are in the early stages of a third world war or are blindly walking through life’s rich tapestry, you cannot help but notice the influence of American civilisation and culture across the globe. For many decades America’s influence upon the average “Joe Public” has been rising with a startling pace. For it’s part the United States of America has been hailed as a beacon of democracy and human values since the union of states.

Before the USA we had the Great British Empire and before them countless other superpowers who have shaped the world as we know it. In becoming a superpower the United States of America has had to face countless tests of strength, integrity, compassion and values, not to mention the odd world war. The 2nd World War in particular, where America proclaimed itself to the world as a superpower without equal, and the use of atomic power made the world stand in awe of it’s power. Out of the ashes of the 2nd World War though, rose the U.S.S.R. and with them a superpower to equal or in some terms negate the power of the United States.

During this period of around 50 years the world seemed at peace in a global sense. Many despots still were abroad and many people lost their lives in countless acts of aggression, though never in the scale of World War. People slept relatively comfortably in their beds in USA, USSR, Europe and much of the world.

Since the demise of the Soviet Union in the early 1990’s though, the United States of America has had a kind of global monopoly on all things. As the world’s only superpower they have the most influence and everyone seems to wish a seat at their table and align themselves for profit.

Is this wrong? What if the USA are the world’s guardians of freedom of speech and common values spreading democracy across the globe?

You just have to look at some of the changes in the world since 1990 and ask yourself if you can sleep comfortably in your bed?

What we need is balance! A balance of power or superpower if you will! The trouble is the USA has had a taste of global domination and, are not ready to share. We have rising powers again such as Russia and China who, given some time will become superpowers and be able to influence on a global scale.

Look at the facts and you will see what is unfolding. A superpower trying to corner the Market, not willing to share, looking at survival of the fittest, not the best for all. I leave you with some food for thought and who knows how things will play. We only have to hope for balance to be achieved through peace and harmony, not death and destruction.

USA is cornering the Market on global resources for fossil fuel

USA is cornering the Market on weapons of mass destruction

USA is cornering the Market on space age technology and warfare

Let’s hope they don’t get all 3!

your blog was interesting a nice eye opening read. but let me say this america is a super power because it’s a continent made of corruption, slavery and thievery. America needs small country’s such as Iran and Iraq. why? so that they can use their bully tatics to to seize control over Iran-Iraq in order to steal their oil, and you know what, this is happening right now as i send you this message.

I have to say that most of what you say, i agree with except this — “you cannot help but notice the influence of American civilisation and culture across the globe” That i would have to disagree - the US faces thousands of immigrants each day who come to our country to have freedom - they come into our culture and then - they dont like it and they want change. If i, a normal citizen went abroad and caused a stink about another country’s culture and practices - what do you think they would say? they’d say - we didnt ask you to come you can leave - same goes for us - people around the world come to live here knowing that we are predominantly Christian and then ask why there is prayer - why should we say the pledge with Under God, etc etc. You want to know why? Because it is OUR Country and you came here…Sorry you dont have a say –and yet…..it is so disappointing that more Americans dont speak up to save our own culture in our own country.

i aint in america but i think you are overly religous(the usual picture people have of americans is a bible in one hand 12guage in the other and a suv in the background).

australia is prodomiatly chirstian, im chirstian
(Anglican - church of england in australia.they striped the offical religion of australia so it anit anglican church of australian like the kiwis or the canadians have). but you seem “Easterized” in your religous…..love?(and you say you are the leader of the western word thought seem simularly to the middle east in Religous expression.

well i get the best metafore that explains what i mean is “if a american go’s to church he/she is more likely to sway to the right while if a german go’s to church he is more likely to sway to the left”.

summery:the overly religous in your country makes your country have a bad rep from their(the fanatic)out date hostile to technology/science, overly self righesness and countinous “chist cults” that pop up and try to force there view of chirst on others ie: mormon philophic teaching of other religon have there merits but they are wrong and only the mormon church is right this include all other times of chirstianity.

with limiting there apperance in international view poeple will soon have won less reasion to say(mainly in the west)atleast we dont live in america and i should know im a foreiger i should know what makes you look bad to the internation public

    – and leaders in the space program I might add, forgot that point did you?

overly self righesness and countinous “chist cults” that pop up and try to force there view of chirst on others

    – blanket statement, that is to be expected considering your rant so far, at least we don’t beat our women in the streets if their veil falls off, or kill them out right for disagreeing with their husbands in public, or throw acid in their faces, cause they refuse marriage … meg’s are out there. Side note we provide some of the best spell checkers in the world..for free

i should know im a foreiger i should know what makes you look bad to the internation public

    – personal point of view I’d say, and you made yourself very clear from the start we you stood on your thoughts about the us.

    >>now try for some hard facts, you might even want to travel a some. I’ve been posted in many places, even spent 5 months in Perth. Then again I consider myself an educated soldier, and would rather go and learn about a place in person, than to repeat what others say around me, and here’s the kicker, I’m not even american… officially yet.

Bottom line boys and girls is simple, just like individuals, and country, any country has it’s public face, made up of the views from outsiders, it’s private face, made up of the views from those within … and somewhere in the middle is the true face … for good or ill. I don’t know about anyone reading this, but last time I tried to walk on water I got my ass wet…so I personally hold back any judgement, until I’ve at least personally spent sometime in a particular country.
