Genetic Modification - You are the Guinea Pig
Moving into the farming belt I started hearing rumbling from farmers about Round up ready seeds. The research I have found proved that this a very serious matter.
http://www.non-gm-farmers.com/news_print.asp?ID=713 Negative market price impacts are not neutral issues. The impact that Bt (genetically engineered or GMO) corn is having on markets for U.S. corn is far from being neutral. Lost corn exports to the European Union: According to official USDA export and trade statistics, U.S. corn export quantity to the European Union has dropped from 2.778 MMT (million metric tons) in MY (marketingyear) 1995/96 to the miniscule level of only 6,300 MT as of August 16, 2001 with only two weeks remaining in the current 2000/01 marketing year.
As you see the farmers understand that the world is rejecting Genetically Engineered corn. With cross pollination many farmers are becoming part of GM food chain without their consent. Why is the world rejecting this corn? Why has the report been so quiet in America? To further educate myself on this topic, I watched the DVD “Future of Food” http://www.thefutureoffood.com/ Part of the synopsis on the web site.
From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this film gives a voice to farmers whose lives and livelihoods have been negatively impacted by this new technology. The health implications, government policies and push towards globalization are all part of the reason why many people are alarmed by the introduction of genetically altered crops into our food supply.
Greed is the overwhelming drive of these few multinational corporations that want control of all seeds around the world. India recently took this to their high court and preserved their native seeds. Open pollinated seeds can be saved and replanted ever year - also called non hybrid seeds. Several small farmers in third world counties depend on the ability to save seeds for next years crop. But if the few large multinational companies have their way, only their seeds and pesticides can be used. This is very important for understanding how the world food supply is in danger.
Watch the DVD, have your friends and family watch the DVD. Wow I am amazed on so many points where to begin. First, they can genetically modify our food and put it on the shelves for sale without any testing or approval. That is right, no 10 year study on rats to make sure it is safe - nothing. If you buy food from a grocery store you are now a human guinea pig. Back in the 90’s they spliced in a flounder gene with tomatoes so the tomatoes would have a longer shelf life. Do you know what a flounder is? A salt water fish like a halibut. If you ate any of these tomatoes you were eating a fish gene at the same time without your consent or knowledge. I am totally amazed.
They are working on a terminator seed that grows once then never again. If this cross pollinates with non hybrid seeds it could spell disaster. I can’t believe the American people have allowed this playing God without standing up and yelling from the rooftops - no GM foods allowed in this country. Educate yourself - take action before it is too late.
Before anyone labels me as a far left liberal, I can assure I am the farthest thing from that stereotype. Educate yourself. This is a major battle. Find out what other countries are doing to stop this and help Americans wake up to the danger and change this before it is too late. Till next time, never stop learning.

Thank you for this article… I kept hearing about GE foods, but didn’t REALLY understand what EXACTLY was going on… I found a free version of the movie on Google Video and now feel VERY informed…
